EKU Employees and Students Collect 15 Pounds of Butts
In an effort to create a more beautiful campus, EKU employees and students participated in a Colonels Kick Butt and Clean Up event on June 9, 2014. Twenty teams competed to collect the most littered butts across campus, resulting in a combined 15 pounds in one hour. The collection represents an estimated 600 packs of cigarettes, costing roughly $3,000.
Cigarette butts are the most commonly littered item and 85% are tossed on the ground. With a 100% tobacco-free policy, Eastern Kentucky University will be a cleaner campus free of this litter.
